About me

​​I have over 27 years’ experience in criminal litigation.  I have appeared in significant cases before judges and juries in the High Court and District Court, throughout the Western Bay of Plenty and Waikato, including murder, serious violent and sexual offending, class A drugs and money laundering.  I have also appeared in the Court of Appeal.

 

I was admitted to the bar in 1996.   In 1999, I joined the Tauranga Crown Solicitor’s firm, becoming a senior prosecutor in 2004 and partner in 2006.  I was counsel for the Solicitor-General and the Commissioner of Police for High Court proceedings under the Proceeds of Crime Act and the subsequent Criminal Proceeds (Recovery) Act. 

 

​In 2013, I was appointed as the Deputy Public Defender for Tauranga. 

 

In 2015, I commenced practice as a barrister before recommencing as a senior Crown prosecutor in Hamilton and Rotorua.  I returned to Tauranga in 2019 as a principal Crown prosecutor. 

 

​I returned to the defence bar in 2023. 

 

My area of specialty remains criminal litigation, in particular drug offending and serious violence.  

I am an approved preferred provider for PAL 3 and 4 criminal legal aid matters.

 

I have been a member of the teaching faculty at the New Zealand Law Society Litigation Skills programme since 2008.
